Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | The techno-semiotic device: signs or objects? As new ways of making knowledge available appear (interactive terminals, multimedia, virtual environments, etc.), the issue of the relationship between signs and objects is raised with a new acuity. This paper tries to show that these new forms of communication constitute primarily indicial techno-semiotic devices. Their purpose is to put in tension the objective nature of the elements they are composed of with the semiotic value they are associated with. Based in particular on C. S. Peirce’s work, it describes on the one hand the indicial and diagrammatic nature of these devices, and shows on the other how the interpretative work of the user (analyze, comparison, etc.) rests on a constant oscillation between sign and object. |
