| Summary, etc. | La décision de séculariser le territoire prussien de l’Ordre teutonique prise par le grand maître Albert de Brandebourg-Ansbach en 1525 sur le conseil de Luther fut préparée par un long processus. Tout au long du XVe siècle, le zèle missionnaire des commencements avait disparu. La noblesse d’Empire voyait surtout dans l’Ordre une institution d’assistance permettant d’établir ses cadets. Le traité de 1466 imposé par la Couronne polonaise et les difficultés croissantes rencontrées par l’Ordre conduisirent les principaux officiers à se tourner vers des cadets de familles princières pour rétablir la situation et essayer de se soustraire à la suzeraineté polonaise. |

| Summary, etc. | The decision to secularize the Prussian territory of the Teutonic order was taken by the great master Albert of Brandenburg-Ansbach on Luther’s advice and was prepared by a rather long process. Throughout the fifteenth century, the former missionary zeal disappeared. Imperial noble families held the Order for a social institution allowing them to establish their younger sons. The treaty of 1466 inflicted by the Polish Crown and the increasing difficulties the Order had led its main officers to turn to princely younger sons to improve its situation and try to escape Polish suzerainty. |
