| Summary, etc. | À partir du regroupement d’une série d’enquêtes socio-démographiques sur la profession de journalistes réalisées depuis 50 ans – avec toutes les limites méthodologiques que ce regroupement d’enquêtes éparses pose – nous nous proposons de tenter de déceler certaines tendances lourdes de la composition de ce secteur d’activité. L’évolution du marché du travail et de l’emploi montre ainsi une consolidation progressive de la profession, avec une élévation du niveau de formation des journalistes par exemple et le maintien d’un secteur d’emploi fort et dominant, celui de la presse écrite. Des éléments de disparités et de fragilités demeurent toutefois, à l’issue de ce processus de mutation de la profession. Si on a assisté à une féminisation progressive, de fortes inégalités selon les sexes persistent à l’embauche, dans les revenus ou l’évolution de carrière. Et on a vu s’installer depuis quelques années une précarisation du métier. |

| Summary, etc. | The occupation of journalist between 1950 and 2000From the regrouping of a series of social and demographic surveys on purpose of the occupation of journalists, realized for 50 years – with all the methodological limits that this regrouping of scattered investigations rise – we try to detect certain heavy tendencies of the composition of this branch of industry. The trend of work and employment market thus shows a progressive consolidation of the profession, with a rise in the training level of journalists for example and the perpetuation of a sector of employment strong and dominating, that of the newspaper industry. Elements of disparities and brittlenesses remain however, at the end of this process of change of the profession. If one witnessed a progressive feminization, strong inequalities according to sexes persist at the time of recruitment, in the incomes or for the evolution of career. And, for a few years, a precarisation of the trade bas settled. |
