Summary, etc. | The subject of this paper is Hobbes’s position within the history of the philosophical problem of reputation. My discussion is divided into three parts : a short introduction in which I specify how this issue is related to that of social recognition ; an attempt at a definition as well as a theoretical/historical analysis of the ground-breaking « Hobbesian model », through which Hobbes formulated the question of reputation in modern thought as a struggle for signs of honour ; a balanced appraisal of the persistence of Hobbes’ approach throughout a certain tradition of the social thought, in particular in the economy of symbolic goods by Pierre Bourdieu. |
