Chez celui-ci, cet engagement est multiple : académique, comme la plupart des scientifiques ; politique, comme nombre de sociologues, mais aussi médiatique, comme certains grands intellectuels et civique, comme trop peu de chercheurs. Un exemple de ce lien intime entre ce qu’il appelle le « bien penser » et le « bien agir » nous est donné par son analyse de la construction européenne ( Penser l’Europe, 1987) et sa présidence de l’association Europe 99, projet de civilisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Rethinking Europe to build a European democracyEdgar Morin’s humanist ambition is to see reality in its entirety the better to transform it. His was a multi-faceted undertaking : academic, as for most scientists, political, as for many sociologists, but also involving the media, as for certain leading intellectuals, and civics, as for too few researchers. One example of this close link between what he calls “le bien penser” (thinking rightly) and “le bien agir” (acting rightly) can be found in his analysis of European construction ( Penser l’Europe, 1987) and his presidency of the association Europe 99, projet de civilisation ( Europe 99, a blueprint for civilisation). |
