| Summary, etc. | De nombreux chefs-d’œuvre de l’art mélanésien sont conservés dans les musées alors que d’autres sont demeurés sur place dans leur île d’origine. Certains d’entre eux ont été valorisés par leur présentation dans les musées ou par les écrits des chercheurs. Ceci a encouragé les communautés insulaires à prendre conscience de l’importance primordiale de leur patrimoine culturel au sein du concert des nations. La reconnaissance de quelques-unes de ces créations ancestrales comme chefs-d’œuvre de l’humanité a stimulé, grâce aux récentes technologies de la communication, le développement d’un nouvel élan chez les jeunes artistes océaniens. Ces nouvelles technologies sont susceptibles de leur apporter une grande aide dans leur quête d’une réappropriation de leur patrimoine. |

| Summary, etc. | The promotion of Melanesia’s architectural, sculptural and pictorial heritageA great many masterpieces of Melanesian art are conserved in museums, while others have remained in the islands where they were created. In some cases, museum displays or the writings of researchers have highlighted their value. This has encouraged awareness among the island communities of the considerable importance of their cultural heritage among the family of nations. Thanks to recent advances in communication technology, recognition of some of these ancestral creations as masterpieces of the human heritage has given a new impetus to young Oceanian artists. The new communication technologies could be of significant help to them in their efforts to reclaim their cultural heritage. |
