| Summary, etc. | Dominique Parodi (1870-1955), philosophe-professeur devenu inspecteur général de l’Instruction publique après la Première Guerre mondiale, appartient à une génération intellectuelle marquée par les combats de l’affaire Dreyfus et par la lutte contre le cléricalisme. « Rationaliste impénitent » et ardent républicain, il fut un acteur important de la controverse philosophique sur le « problème moral » dans le "moment 1900". La Grande Guerre fut pour lui une épreuve philosophique et morale. Les articles qu’il publie en 1915 et 1916 tentent de concilier critique rationnelle et justification philosophique de la guerre du droit. Ses différents écrits soulignent l’ambivalence morale de la guerre : expérience d’une élévation et, dans le même temps, d’un effondrement lourd de menace pour la raison et l’idéal démocratique. Opposé à toute mystique guerrière, Parodi poursuit sur deux fronts, intérieur et extérieur, le combat philosophique contre les adversaires du « rationalisme moral ». |

| Summary, etc. | Dominique Parodi (1870-1955), philosopher, teacher and then inspector general of the state education after the First World War, belongs to a generation marked by the Dreyfus Affair and the fight against clericalism. An « incorrigible rationalist » and an ardent republican, he played a significant role in the philosophical controversy on « moral problem » before the war. The Great War was for him a philosophical as well as a moral experience. His articles published in 1915 and 1916 are an attempt to reconcile a rational criticism with a philosophical justification of a war for the right. His various writings emphasize the moral ambivalence of war: elevation on the one hand and on the other a collapse threatening reason and the democratic ideal. Parodi, firmly opposed to any form of war mystique, continues his philosophical fight against the opponents of moral rationalism within and without. |
