| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’histoire contemporaine en Espagne s’est construite sous la double contrainte d’une interprétation essentialiste de l’histoire nationale héritée des combats idéologiques du xixe siècle et d’un régime franquiste attaché à combattre le libéralisme. Sous l’impulsion de pionniers, l’étude de l’Espagne contemporaine a acquis sa réputation scientifique et sa qualification universitaire. Cet article, par l’exemple de Jover Zamora (1920-2006) et de Tuñón de Lara (1915-1997), tend à montrer comment le développement de cette discipline qu’est l’histoire contemporaine constitue une étape culturelle et scientifique pré-politique essentielle à la création des fondements d’une culture pour la démocratie espagnole. |

| Summary, etc. | “How Spain’s Historical Knowledge Allows It to Overcome Ideological Constraints : The Historiographical Legacy of José María Jover Zamora and Manuel Tuñón de Lara”Contemporary history in Spain has been constructed under the double constraint of an essentialist interpretation of national history inherited from the ideological battles of the 20th-century and a Francoist regime committed to fighting liberalism. Inspired by the work of pioneering historians, the study of contemporary Spain has stood out for its scholarship and academic standing. Drawing upon the examples of Jover Zamora (1920-2006) and Tuñon de Lara (1915-1997), this article seeks to show how the development of the discipline of contemporary history constituted an essential, pre-political cultural and scientific step towards laying the foundations of a culture for Spanish democracy. |
