Summary, etc. | La désactivation de la fonction esthétique de l’art peut l’ouvrir à d’autres fonctions. Dans cet article, il s’agira d’explorer la fonction épistémique de l’art et la manière dont l’art peut permettre l’émergence de ce que nous nommons une tierce connaissance. Partant du principe que toute œuvre emmène avec elle sa propre théorisation en acte, nous analysons le film Nous d’Artavazd Pelechian et l’installation vidéo Schnittstelle de Harun Farocki en tant qu’exemples de notre postulat. En résonnance avec le tiers état de l’abbé Sieyès ou le tiers paysage de Gilles Clément, la tierce connaissance dessine un espace épistémique potentiel, résistant à la fois à l’académisation accompagnant les savoirs constitués et à l’instrumentalisation inhérente aux savoirs produits par le capitalisme cognitif, un espace hétérogène, liminal, inventant une économie de la connaissance – avec ses outils théoriques, ses formes produites et ses régimes de visibilité – en perpétuel renouvellement. |

Summary, etc. | Art as an enabler of “knowledge of the third kind”Deactivating the aesthetic function of art can open it up to other functions. In this article, we explore the epistemic function of art and how art can enable the emergence of what we refer to as “knowledge of the third kind”. Starting from the principle that any work of art encapsulates its own theorisation in action, we analyse the Artavazd Peleshian’s film Nous and Harun Farocki’s video installation entitled Schnittstelle as examples illustrating our premise. Resonating with the “third estate” defined by Abbé Sieyès and the “third landscape” of Gilles Clément, the concept of “knowledge of the third kind” outlines a potential epistemic space that resists both the academisation of established knowledge and the instrumentalisation inherent in knowledge produced by cognitive capitalism, a space which is heterogeneous and liminal and which perpetually reinvents its own knowledge economy, along with its own theoretical tools, forms of production and means of achieving visibility. |
