| Summary, etc. | Du conteur, il est dit qu’il est un « bon parleur », qu’il parle bien. En Afrique, le conte et la parole en Afrique sont intimement liés. Nous voulons ici visiter les relations qui fondent et motivent ces deux modes d’expressions et de transmission des savoirs dans les sociétés de traditions orales. En nous référant aux communautés Bwa du Mali et du Burkina Faso, nous comprenons les similitudes qui ont cours ailleurs et les questions qui se posent : que signifie parler ? pourquoi conter ? ou encore comment transmettre les connaissances ? Les réponses à ces interrogations intéressent à un haut degré la communication et la manière d’informer son public. |

| Summary, etc. | Talking like a tale, or the art of passing on knowledge in AfricaStorytellers are described as people who have “a way with words”, people who are good at talking. In Africa, storytelling and talking are closely linked. This article looks into the relationships that underlie and give rise to these two forms of expression and knowledge transmission in societies with an oral tradition. Our investigations of the Bwa communities in Mali and Burkina Faso bring out similarities with patterns elsewhere and raise many questions: What does talking mean? Why tell stories? How is knowledge transmitted? The answers to these questions are highly relevant to communication and ways of bringing information to an audience. |
