520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Undernutrition is a common problem in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is often associated with sarcopenia, defined as a reduction in muscle mass and function. Sarcopenia is poorly evaluated in IBD but is probably frequent, with an estimated prevalence of 52% and 37% for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis respectively. It is essential to evaluate it in the management of IBD, especially for its impact in terms of quality of life, morbidity and mortality. The objective of this review is to assess the current state of sarcopenia in IBD, to understand the mechanisms leading to sarcopenia, to evaluate its prognostic impact and to define an adapted management. |
