Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Notwithstanding conventional wisdom, medieval transhumance was a complex activity mobilizing a number of actors, and also implying the use of specialized documents characterized by a specific mode of construction, of which Noé de Barras’ book was an example. The codicological study of this document gives us a glimpse of how, in Provence at the end of the 15th century, the organization of the routes followed by flocks between plains and mountain pastures, entrusted at times to local nobles, went beyond the expression of geographical constraints and demand-based economic incentives, and offered a way in which the social hierarchies of lower mountain valleys could be buttressed and reproduced. |

Summary, etc. |
