General note | 77 |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | As soon as pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PA) is diagnosed, whether at the localised, locally advanced or metastatic stage, it is important to provide supportive care combined with the best possible antitumoral treatment. The psychological impact, in the form of anxiety-depressive disorders (ADD), affects more than one the third patients. It also affects carers, who are directly affected by their loved one’s illness. Psychological symptoms often appear at an early stage in the history of the disease, and in some cases may even be the first symptom or even reveal it. TADs arise from the natural history of PA and its complications, such as pain, jaundice, anorexia and cachexia. However, biological factors may also be involved in triggering anxiety-depressive symptoms, with inflammation playing a major role. Finally, psychosocial as well as medical factors may have an influence on ADD, such as the empathy of the doctor, as perceived by the patient at the time of diagnosis, and of the healthcare team as a whole during follow-up. In this context, early diagnosis and appropriate management of the psychological impact on patients and their carers is a major challenge for their quality of life, as well as optimising adherence to anti-tumour treatments. Increased collaboration between clinicians, clinical psychologists and researchers, with the development of dedicated studies, seems an essential condition for achieving this. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
