| Summary, etc. | Qu’est-ce qui n’est pas (en) réseau aujourd’hui ? Si la notion, dont la longue histoire éclaire son imaginaire aussi riche qu’équivoque, menace toujours de piéger l’analyse dans l’écueil déterministe par la place donnée à la technique, sa version dite socionumérique signale un des paradoxes de nos sociétés : le manque actuel de communication qui pousse à recourir à des outils, applications et autres interfaces par besoin et espoir, plus fort que jamais peut-être à l’heure d’un individualisme aussi narcissique que concurrentiel, de relations humaines dans la réalité. Mais son succès interroge également à un niveau plus fondamental : comment la société se laisserait-elle appréhender et pourrait-elle s’accommoder ou dépasser la logique affinitaire, communautaire voire identitaire que le réseau promeut comme mode d’affiliation ? Dit plus simplement, le réseau peut-il vraiment faire lien social ? À la lumière de ces constats et questions, on comprendra alors mieux pourquoi le réseau demeure une entrée factuellement mineure mais omniprésente dans la revue Hermès. |

| Summary, etc. | What is not (in) a network today ? This notion – with a long history to explain its rich and equivocal imaginary – always threatens to draw analysis into the pitfall of determinism because of the importance it gives to the technical. However, its socio-digital version points to one of the paradoxes of contemporary society : the lack of communication that drives people to use tools, applications, and other interfaces – perhaps now more than ever before in this time of narcissistic and competitive individualism – out of a need or hope for real-world human relations. However, its success also raises more fundamental questions. How can society be understood in terms of the logic of affinity, community, or even identity advocated by the network as a mode of affiliation ? How can it be reconciled with the latter ? How can it extend beyond them ? Put more simply, can a network be a social link ? In light of these observations and questions, it will become clear why the notion of network remains a factually minor but nevertheless omnipresent topic in Hermès. |
