| Summary, etc. | Le pastoralisme, la transhumance ainsi que le milieu de vie des bergers médiévaux restent un domaine de recherche fascinant, notamment pour l’histoire socioculturelle, économique et environnementale. Contrairement à l’abondante bibliographie sur le pastoralisme prémoderne en France, les pratiques saisonnières d’élevage et l’interaction socio-économique des bergers avec les sociétés urbaines et rurales en Europe du Sud-Est sont encore largement inexplorées. Cet article s’intéresse aux bergers des Balkans médiévaux et de l’Adriatique orientale, en particulier de la Dalmatie vénitienne au xve siècle. Au cœur du propos, les bergers de l’île de Korčula, considérés selon la base statutaire et contractuelle à partir de laquelle ils faisaient paître leurs troupeaux sur l’île. Leur routine saisonnière ne va pas sans conflits socio-économiques avec la société rurale et urbaine, l’administration locale et le gouverneur vénitien de Korčula. |

| Summary, etc. | Pastoralism, transhumance and the life of medieval shepherds remain a fascinating field of research, particularly in terms of socio-cultural, economic and environmental history. In contrast to the rich findings on pre-modern pastoralism in France, the seasonal herding practices and the socio-economic interaction of pastoralists with urban and rural societies in South-Eastern Europe remained largely unexplored. Hence, this article focuses on pastoralists in the medieval Balkans and the eastern Adriatic, particularly Venetian Dalmatia in the 15th century. After introductory reflections on Balkan pastoralism, the island of Korčula is examined as a case study in order to first elucidate the statutory and contractual basis on which local shepherds grazed their flocks on the island. Then the seasonal routine of the island’s shepherds is explored, including some of their socio-economic conflicts with the local rural and urban society, its communal administration and the Venetian governor of Korčula. |

| Summary, etc. | ResumenEl pastoreo, la trashumancia y la vida de los pastores medievales siguen siendo un campo de investigación fascinante, sobre todo en lo que respecta a la historia sociocultural, económica y medioambiental. En contraste con los ricos hallazgos sobre el pastoreo premoderno en Francia, las prácticas estacionales de pastoreo y la interacción socioeconómica con las sociedades urbanas y rurales del sureste de Europa permanecen en gran medida inexploradas. Por ello, este artículo se centra en los pastores de los Balcanes medievales y del Adriático oriental, en particular los de la Dalmacia Veneciana del siglo XV. Tras unas reflexiones introductorias, se examina como estudio de caso, la isla de Korčula, para dilucidar las bases estatutarias y contractuales sobre las que los pastores locales vigilaban sus rebaños. Se explora, entonces, la rutina estacional de los pastores en la isla, incluyendo algunos de sus conflictos socioeconómicos con la sociedad rural y urbana local, su administración comunal y el gobernador veneciano de Korčula. |
