| Summary, etc. | Depuis son émergence dans les années 1970, le heavy metal est resté un genre musical peu apprécié par une très grande majorité de la population, il est donc resté peu couvert par les médias excepté quelques articles à charge ou dépréciateur. Cependant, ce genre de musique a toujours eu, depuis plus de 40 ans, une minorité d’adeptes très attaché à la culture metal. On observe à l’heure actuelle un phénomène nouveau, puisque le heavy metal devient visible dans l’espace public. Ceci s’explique d’abord par un phénomène structurel, l’augmentation des adeptes de la musique metal, car une grande partie de ceux qui ont connu cette musique dans leur jeune âge continue d’en écouter, un peu partout dans le monde. Elle s’explique également par le succès d’évènements dédiés au genre musical. C’est le cas en France avec l’un des grands festivals se déroulant sur le territoire national, le Hellfest. |

| Summary, etc. | Ever since it appeared in the 1970s, heavy metal has been a genre that has remained relatively unpopular with the general public. For this reason, it tends not to be covered by the media, other than in an occasional critical or disparaging article. Nevertheless, for the past 40 years, heavy metal has always attracted a small group of fans who are very attached to metal culture. At present, something new is occurring : heavy metal is gaining visibility in the public arena. This can be understood as a structural phenomenon – the growth in the number of fans of the genre – for many, throughout the world, who first got to know this music when they were younger, have continued to listen to it. It can also be understood as an effect of the success of heavy metal festivals and other events. This is the case in France, where Hellfest, one of the largest of these events, is held. |
