Summary, etc. | Radio Chine Internationale est, à l’image de RFI ou de BBC Worldwide, la composante radiophonique de la stratégie d’implantation médiatique d’un État (Barrat, 2009), ici la République populaire de Chine, à l’étranger, en France dans le cas que nous étudions. De fait, ce média vise une audience francophone, de laquelle il tente d’influer positivement les représentations de la Chine. Cet article s’interroge sur les procédés par lesquels RCI cherche à porter le discours de Pékin auprès des publics ciblés. Sa stratégie s’avère défaillante, du fait d’un ton neutre, d’un manque d’adaptation au public français, transposant des contenus produits pour la Chine sur une radio francophone, d’une concentration sur des sujets économiques et culturels et d’une diffusion limitée au support Internet. Ce faisant, l’opération d’influence que représente RCI ne parvient à atteindre qu’une petite base installée déjà sensible aux thèses développées par la radio et ayant une image positive de la Chine. |

Summary, etc. | Like RFI or BBC Worldwide, Radio Chine Internationale is the radio component of a state’s media implantation strategy (Barrat, 2009) –in this case, the People’s Republic of China– abroad. Indeed, this media targets a French-speaking audience, from which it attempts to positively influence representations of China. This article examines the processes by which RCI seeks to bring Beijing’s discourse to its target audiences. Its strategy proves to be flawed, due to a neutral tone, a lack of adaptation to the French audience, transposing content produced for China onto a French-language radio station, a concentration on economic and cultural subjects and a distribution limited to the Internet medium. As a result, the influence operation represented by RCI only reaches a small installed base already sensitive to the theses developed by the radio and with a positive image of China. |
