| Summary, etc. | This paper describes a particular way to use the NBAS with visually impaired mothers and their infants, which we call the “Transcripted Brazelton Scale.” This helps to support the visually impaired mothers’ mothering process. Our technique is adapted from the classical administration of this test. In fact, its particular cues help us to transcribe in other ways what is normally perceived through vision. This situation illustrates the concepts of metaphorizing empathy, enaction, transference and counter-transference, and identification, because the mother feels the deepness of the relationship with her baby through it scaffolding on her intimate relationship with both the baby examiner and the transcriber. Due to the very close relationship between the mother and the clinicians, the mother’s defenses lift, and it is necessary to avoid intrusive feelings. Our setting may be very efficient in the dyads where the mother is able to see, but is at risk of developing a misunderstanding with her baby. It constitutes an early medico-psychological preventive action and should have a place in all infant centers. |
