Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | A work of filial forgiveness in psychoanalysis The author draws lines on the fact that often the analysand expresses the desire to go beyond his resentment or hate feeling towards his abusive parent, to forgive. She subsequently asks us the question of the work of filial forgiveness in an ongoing psychoanalysis. Distinguishing between forgiveness and work of forgiveness, she shares the different steps in the process : from denial to possible forgiveness itself, going through anger, depression, and acceptance; every step is illustrated by clinical examples. Without denying the question of legitimately « invite forgiveness on the sofa » for an analyst, she questions the therapeutic function of the work of forgiveness, as it is a double fold work, of mourning and memory. She tells of the psychic processes, which facilitates it : transference, reparation, hate reversal into compassion or love. This work indeed allows for : the transformation of the look on one’s past, life improvement with the trauma itself for lack of being able of erasing its traces. Forgiveness, when possible, can help find back a more balanced filial tie, a psychic pacification, sometimes a true rebirth. |
