| Summary, etc. | Le célèbre chroniqueur américain William Pfaff écrivait dans l’ International Herald Tribune : « La faiblesse des États-Unis réside dans le fait qu’ils sont la dernière puissance planétaire qui se croit investie d’une mission universelle », celle de défendre les droits de l’homme partout dans le monde. Partant de là, ils fondent leur politique étrangère et leur identité nationale sur une idéologie décrétant que le modèle américain est le meilleur, sinon l’unique modèle pour la société humaine de demain. Ladite idéologie se fonde sur des mythes fondateurs qui méritent que l’on s’y attarde, et ce à travers l’analyse de leurs éléments les plus percutants, notamment la notion de « guerre juste » et de « destinée manifeste ». |

| Summary, etc. | William Pfaff, the American columnist, wrote in the International Herald Tribune: “The weakness of the United States lies in the fact that they are the last power which considers itself invested with a universal mission”, that to defend human rights all around the world. Thus, they found their foreign policy and their national identity on an ideology asserting that the American model is not only the best but also the unique model for the future of human society. The aforementioned ideology bases itself on myths which deserve to be analysed, built on forceful elements, ranging from the “fair war” to the “manifest destiny”. |
