| Summary, etc. | Si l’Allemagne n’eut pas jusqu’au désastre final à connaître l’occupation étrangère, elle vit pourtant elle aussi naître dès les années 1930 une résistance intérieure, tout entière attachée à combattre le système totalitaire mis en place à partir de 1933 par le régime nazi. La seule résistance qui constitua pour le pouvoir hitlérien une menace réelle, jusqu’à assembler tous les éléments d’un coup d’État, fut militaire. Et l’attentat du 20 juillet 1944, souvent évoqué, fut en réalité le moment le plus fort, sinon l’aboutissement, d’une résistance longtemps mûrie au sein des forces armées. La « confession d’un officier antinazi », parue en Allemagne en 1976 et dont la traduction française a attendu trente-six ans, est l’occasion de revenir sur cette résistance allemande très particulière. |

| Summary, etc. | Although Germany did not experience foreign occupation until its eventual defeat, it did witness the development of its own internal resistance in the 1930s, aimed solely at bringing down the totalitarian system established by the Nazi regime from 1933. The only resistance that posed a real threat to Hitler, to the extent that it had everything needed for a coup d’état, was military. The assassination attempt on 20 July 1944, which has been much discussed, was the finest hour if not the fulfilment of a resistance that had been brewing for a long time within the armed forces. The confessions of an anti-Nazi officer published in Germany in 1976, and not translated into French for another 36 years, offer an opportunity to revisit this very particular German experience of resistance. |
