| Summary, etc. | Lorsqu’une personne souhaite s’engager dans l’armée, elle doit répondre à des critères physiques, médicaux et psychologiques. Il est ainsi indispensable de posséder de bonnes capacités d’adaptabilité, d’anticipation, d’apprentissage et d’intégration au groupe. Qu’en est-il pour les « troubles du genre » ? Il ne s’agit pas dans cet article d’alimenter un faux débat sur la question du droit d’un transsexuel à s’engager dans l’institution militaire ou pas. Il n’existe ni interdiction ni quotas réglementant l’engagement sous la question de l’orientation sexuelle. En revanche, il s’agit de pouvoir raisonnablement réfléchir au cas par cas sur le bien-fondé et la pertinence de la demande. Devant cette question sociétale épineuse, nous ne pouvons plus être ni dans le rejet ni dans l’évitement. Il nous faut interroger cela pour ne pas être dans la discrimination tout en assurant le bien-être de l’individu et du groupe. |

| Summary, etc. | When a person wants to enlist in the army, he or she has to satisfy physical, medical and psychological criteria. For example, it is vital to have good capacities of adaptability, anticipation, learning and integration in the group. What about “gender disorders”? The aim of this article is not to feed into the false debate about the right of transsexuals to enlist in the military or not. There is neither a ban nor any quotas regulating enlistment on the basis of sexual orientation. By contrast, we should be able to reflect reasonably on the merits and appropriateness of each application, on a case by case basis. Faced with this difficult social question, we can no longer avoid the question or adopt an attitude of outright rejection. We need to examine the question, to avoid being in a position of discrimination, while at the same time ensuring the well-being of the individual and of the group. |
