| Summary, etc. | Dans la construction de l’Argentine moderne, l’immigration a joué un rôle fondamental, qui est brièvement présenté dans ce travail. À partir de la fin du XIXe siècle, néanmoins, les phénomènes liés à l’immigration ont été associés de façon persistante à la marginalité, à l’inadaptation et à la pathologie. Après une idéalisation initiale, pendant plus de cent ans, les différentes figures de l’étranger ont été fixées à une folie à multiples visages. De la sorte, les idéaux humanistes et philanthropiques qui, d’une part, ont permis l’intégration réussie de millions de personnes, d’autre part, dans les disciplines qui se sont occupées de la maladie mentale, ont fréquemment conduit à des théorisations prônant la ségrégation. Nous examinons donc, tout d’abord, les rapports entre immigration et folie dans les discours psychiatriques produits dans un demi-siècle, qui va à peu près de 1880 jusqu’à 1930. Ensuite, nous abordons un cas plus récent, qui date des années soixante. Même si les références théoriques avaient changé, le résultat était analogue : la construction d’un stéréotype où l’étranger était a priori un cas pathologique. |

| Summary, etc. | Madness and immigration in Argentina between the 19th and 20th centuriesIn the construction of modern Argentina, immigration played a fundamental role that is briefly outlined in this work. From the end of the 19th century, though, phenomena linked to immigration were persistently associated with marginality, inaptness and pathology. After an initial idealisation, which lasted over 100 years, the different figures of the foreigner were attached to multi-facetted images of madness. Thus the very humanist and philanthropic ideals which, on the one hand, succeeded in integrating millions of persons, on the other, in disciplines concerned with mental illness, frequently gave rise to theories advocating segregation. We therefore examine first the relationship between immigration and madness in psychiatric discourse between roughly 1880 and 1930. Then we examine a more recent case, which dates back to the 1960s. Despite theoretical references having changed, the result was the similar : the construction of a stereotype according to which the foreigner was a priori a pathological case. |

Sin embargo, a partir de finales del siglo XIX, los fenómenos ligados a la inmigración han sido asociados de manera persistente a la marginalidad, a la inadaptación y a la patología. Después de una idealización inicial, durante más de cien años, las diferentes figuras del extranjero fueron fijadas a una locura con múltiples caras. A causa de ello, los ideales humanistas y filantrópicos que por una parte permitieron la buena integración de millones de personas, por otra preconizaron frecuentemente la segregación en las disciplinas que se ocupaban de la enfermedad mental. El autor examina en primer lugar las relaciones entre inmigración y locura en los discursos psiquiátricos producidos durante el medio siglo que va aproximadamente desde 1880 hasta 1930. En segundo lugar examina un caso más reciente que data de los años sesenta. Aunque las referencias teóricas hubieran cambiado, el resultado es analógico : la construcción de un estereotipo en el cual el extranjero era a priori un caso patológico. |
