| Summary, etc. | Dans cet article, la question traitée consiste à déterminer si l’innovation frugale constitue une innovation disruptive. L’article contribue à la littérature portant sur l’innovation en mettant en relation deux champs quasiment toujours séparés : celui qui traite de l’innovation frugale et celui qui analyse l’innovation disruptive. On part de la définition de Christensen et al. (2015) : la disruption commence non pas quand les innovateurs entrent dans l’industrie sur les marchés délaissés par les insiders, mais au moment où ces nouveaux entrants réussissent à se faire une place sur le territoire des entreprises en place. Nous défendons l’idée que le type d’innovation alimentant la disruption ne peut pas être l’innovation frugale. Les auteurs s’interrogent également sur la place des modèles d’affaires dans le processus de disruption et examinent le contexte et les conditions de possibles disruptions causées par l’innovation frugale (comme écart à la loi générale).Codes JEL : O1, O14, O33, Q5 |

| Summary, etc. | In the paper we address the issue: is Frugal Innovation disruptive? We contribute to the Innovation Studies by putting in relation two fields until now separated: the first dealing with Frugal Innovation and the second analyzing Disruption caused by Innovations. Our analysis starts with de definition of disruptive innovation given by Christensen et al. (2015): the disruption process begins, not when new innovators come in the industry through the markets neglected by the insiders, but when they chase on the insiders territory. We support the view that the innovations driving the disruption process cannot be frugal. The authors address as well the impact of Business Models in the disruption and examine the contexts and the conditions of possible disruptions caused by frugal innovations (as exceptions to the general trend).JEL Codes: O1, O14, O33, Q5 |
