| Summary, etc. | Des millions de personnes à travers le monde utilisent des psychotropes. Les directives recommandent de sevrer les patients progressivement dès qu’ils n’en ont plus besoin. Cependant, des symptômes de sevrage apparaissent lorsque l’arrêt n’est pas assez progressif. Ces symptômes, souvent interprétés à tort en termes de rechute, entraînent la poursuite ou la réaugmentation des psychotropes et donc une consommation à long terme, sans que les patients n’en aient véritablement besoin. De plus, les effets indésirables des psychotropes peuvent s’aggraver lorsque leur utilisation est prolongée. Pour éviter cela, il est fondamental que les praticiens disposent d’outils appropriés pour accompagner au mieux les patients dans leur processus de sevrage. Aux Pays-Bas, le Centre de recherche utilisateur (URC) du Centre médical universitaire d’Utrecht a mis au point des bandes de sevrage progressif appelées « Tapering strips » qui semblent très bien fonctionner et qui sont disponibles sur prescription médicale pour les patients ne résidant pas aux Pays-Bas mais non remboursées à ce jour. |

| Summary, etc. | Millions of people around the world take psychotropic drugs. It is recommended that patients are gradually weaned off a drug once they no longer need it. However, withdrawal symptoms are common when patients are not weaned off the drug gradually enough. These symptoms are often misinterpreted as a relapse, leading patients to continue taking psychotropic drugs or to re-increase their dosage. Consequently, patients end up taking the drug on a long-term basis, despite no longer really needing it. Furthermore, the unpleasant side effects of psychotropic drugs can worsen when they are taken over a long period of time. To avoid this, it is essential that practitioners have the right tools to support patients as effectively as possible in the process of reducing their use of a drug. In the Netherlands, the User Research Center (URC) of the University Medical Center Utrecht has developed “tapering strips” to help patients gradually reduce their drug dosage. They seem to be highly effective and are available to buy, but they are currently non-reimbursable for patients who do not live in the Netherlands. |

Estos síntomas suelen interpretarse erróneamente como una recaída llevando consigo la continuación o al re-aumento de psicofármacos y, por tanto, un consumo a largo plazo, sin que los pacientes los necesiten realmente. Además, los efectos adversos de los psicofármacos pueden empeorar con un uso prolongado. Para evitarlo, es esencial que los profesionales dispongan de las herramientas adecuadas para acompañar lo mejor posible las necesidades de abstinencia des los pacientes. En Holanda, el Centro de Investigación de Usuarios (URC) del Centro Médico Universitario de Utrecht ha desarrollado unas cintas adhesivas de abstinencia progresiva llamadas “ Tapering strips” que parecen funcionar muy bien y están disponibles pero sin reembolso de momento con prescripción médica a los pacientes que no viven en los Países Bajos. |
