| Summary, etc. | The scope of patients’ rights has been expanding since the mid-twentieth century. Their founding principle is the individual’s consent to medical research, treatment, and care. Part of the movement for patients’ rights, access to medical aid in dying is a long-standing concern of citizens. This article presents a historical and sociological perspective allowing us to trace the genealogy of patients’ rights in the second half of the twentieth century. It analyzes the emergence and consolidation of the political and citizen engagement toward new patients’ rights in medical aid in dying, most notably illustrated by the Citizens’ Convention on End of Life in 2022–2023. Further, I aim to demonstrate that a rebalancing of the doctor-patient relationship is underway, based on an assertive patient autonomy. This dynamic is strengthened by an emphasis on consent and patients’ rights. |

| Summary, etc. | El registro de los derechos de los pacientes se ha ampliado desde la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Su principio fundador es el consentimiento del individuo a la investigación médica, el tratamiento y los cuidados. Las condiciones del morir y el acceso a la asistencia médica al proceso de la muerte son antiguas preocupaciones que forman parte de este movimiento de los derechos de los pacientes. Este artículo presenta una perspectiva histórica y sociológica, que permite remontar los orígenes de este movimiento a la década de 1960 y analizar la secuencia que comenzó con la Convención ciudadana sobre el final de la vida en 2022-2023. Mi objetivo también es demostrar que la relación médico-paciente está experimentando un reequilibrio, basado en una creciente autonomía que está desplazando los límites del consentimiento, permaneciendo al mismo tiempo en el ámbito de los derechos. |

| Summary, etc. | Le registre des droits des malades s’est étendu depuis la seconde moitié du 20e siècle. Son principe fondateur est le consentement de la personne à la recherche médicale, aux traitements et soins. Les conditions du mourir et l’accès à une aide médicale à mourir est une préoccupation ancienne, qui participe de ce mouvement des droits des malades. Cet article présente une perspective historique et sociologique permettant d’en retracer la généalogie depuis les années 1960 et d’analyser la séquence qui s’est ouverte autour de la convention citoyenne sur la fin de vie en 2022-2023. Mon propos s’attache également à démontrer qu’un rééquilibrage de la relation médecin-malade est en cours, s’appuyant sur une autonomie qui s’affirme, faisant bouger les lignes du consentement, en se maintenant dans le registre des droits. |
