Summary, etc. Information processing is concerned with the growth of norms in organizations in two ways. While increasingly industrialized techniques and standardized discourses are used to put software into practice, using computer programs leads to the standardization and control of sources and of the information generated by these programs. This paper presents an analysis of both phenomena with the aim of distinguishing them from one another. It shows that a semiotic theory of representation permits an account of standardized notations as well as a shared and normative vision of the future information system to be built.
