| Summary, etc. | RésuméCette contribution a pour objectif de s’interroger sur la très grande valorisation de la médecine dans la société algérienne et sur les raisons qui font qu’elle occupe le sommet de la hiérarchie des disciplines et de la hiérarchie des métiers. Le travail s’est fait sur la base d’entretiens avec des enseignants et des étudiants et sur la base d’une exploitation secondaire d’enquêtes qui se sont échelonnées sur une période de 16 ans (1980-1996). De même il a semblé pertinent de faire rapidement mention de l’apport de la civilisation islamique au développement de la médecine parce que ce fait continue d’habiter la mémoire collective et participe de ce fait au renforcement de l’image de la science et de la profession médicales. |

| Summary, etc. | The aim of this contribution is to examine the very great value attached to medicine in Algerian society and the reasons for its being at the top of the hierarchy of disciplines and the hierarchy of professions. The study was based on interviews of teachers and students and the secondary use of surveys that were spread over a period of 16 years (1980-1996). Similarly it seemed pertinent to mention rapidly the contribution of Islamic civilisation to the development of medicine since this fact remains in the collective memory and thus is part of the reinforcement of the image of medical science and the medical profession. |
