Summary, etc. | As Aristotle notes at the very beginning of his enquiry into philia in the Nicomachean Ethics, no one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all the other good things. Yet, happiness does not require that one acquires as many friends as possible. Therefore, how many friends should we have? This paper examines chapter 10 in book IX of the Nicomachean Ethics, where Aristotle addresses this question in detail by showing the importance of sharing the life ( to suzēn) of one’s friend. |
