| Summary, etc. | Malgré une forte communauté d’inspiration, éthique environnementale et éthique animale ne s’entendent guère sur le statut de l’animal. La première reproche à la seconde son étroitesse quant à son motif – centré sur la souffrance – et à son point de vue, strictement individuel. Elle se pose pour sa part comme une conception éthique moins tributaire de l’émotion, plus instruite par la science et possédant une plus grande ampleur de vue prenant en compte les ensembles naturels. La seconde ne manque cependant pas de répondant critique, incriminant la première de carence dans son fondement éthique lui-même. Des perspectives de réconciliation ne semblent toutefois pas impossibles si tant est que l’on admette de reconnaître deux statuts éthiques différents de l’animal : celui de l’intégrité pour l’animal sauvage et celui s’inspirant du modèle du contrat pour l’animal domestique. |

| Summary, etc. | Animals and Environmentalist EthicsWhile environmental ethics and animal ethics have a common source of inspiration, they do not agree on the question of the status of animals. environmental ethicists criticise the narrowness of the reason, focused on pain, given by animal ethicists and their strictly individual point of view ; they maintain that their ethical concept is less emotional and more informed by science, with a broad point of view taking natural networks into account. animal ethicists respond critically, accusing the environmental ethicists of not having any ethical foundation. There are, however, prospects for reconciling the two approaches, provided that they recognise two different ethical stances for animals : one based on the integrity of wild animals and the other based on a model contract for tame animals. |
