| Summary, etc. | Dans cet essai critique, l’autrice polynésienne Chantal Spitz retrace l’histoire des représentations océaniennes dans la littérature puis dans le cinéma européen et américain, dénonçant la perpétuation des clichés exotisants et de l’aliénation autochtone face à cette nouvelle déferlante d’images. Membre en 2017 du jury du Festival international du film océanien, principale rencontre autour du film dans le Pacifique organisée chaque année à Papeete, elle revient sur l’évolution du festival depuis sa création en 2004 et propose une réflexion sur l’éthique qui devrait gouverner les productions océaniennes. Plaidant pour la mise en œuvre d’une structure locale pour l’enseignement des arts de l’audiovisuel, elle rappelle l’urgence de donner aux Océaniens les moyens de devenir des acteurs-producteurs de leur histoire à l’heure de la mondialisation. |

| Summary, etc. | In this critical essay, the Polynesian writer Chantal Spitz retraces the history of Pacific representations in Western literature and cinema, denouncing the perpetuation of exoticizing stereotypes and the Indigenous alienation from this new surge of images. A member in 2017 of the Festival international du film océanien, the main Pacific gathering organised each year in Papeete, she revisits the evolution of the festival since its creation in 2004 and develops a reflection on the ethics that should govern Oceanian productions. Advocating for the implementation of local structures devoted to teaching audiovisual arts, she points to the importance in this era of globalisation of enabling Pacific Islanders to become the actors-producers of their own history. |
