| Summary, etc. | L’histoire de la constitution du fonds océanien du muséum de Toulouse ressemble à celle d’autres muséums de France. Au grand intérêt porté aux objets collectés lors des missions de circumnavigation du début du xixe siècle et déposés dans les musées de leurs villes d’origine par les navigateurs (Gaston de Roquemaurel à Toulouse), succéda une période d’indifférence relative. Les présentations du xixe siècle perdurèrent bien souvent jusqu’à la vague de rénovations des années 2000. À Toulouse, les travaux de recherche documentaire et d’étude des collections menés depuis la réouverture ont permis de retracer le parcours de certains objets et d’approfondir leurs connaissances. Néanmoins, les choix muséographiques retenus pour la galerie d’exposition rénovée ne favorisent pas la transmission de ces savoirs et complexifient la compréhension des objets. Cette étude historique et analytique vise à repenser l’approche muséographique du muséum de Toulouse : quelle lecture des collections océaniennes propose l’institution muséale aujourd’hui et quelles perspectives en émergent ? |

| Summary, etc. | The Oceanic collections of the museum of Toulouse were formed in a way similar to those of other French museums of natural history. At the beginning of the 19th century, museums became interested in objects that circumnavigators, like Gaston de Roquemaurel in Toulouse, brought back to their hometown. Then, followed a period of relative indifference, during which the display of such artefacts remained mostly unchanged. In the early 2000s, however, an era of (museum) renovation began. In Toulouse, researchers engaged in documentation and collection studies, thus improving the knowledge about objects and their (historical) trajectories. In spite of this, the museological choices implemented in the renovated gallery did not seem to convey these research results or favored the understanding of Oceanic artefacts. This historical and analytical study aims at the rethinking of museography in Toulouse’s museum. What interpretation of Oceanic collections prevails today and which perspectives emerge from it? |
