| Summary, etc. | En 2006, à la faveur de sa reconstruction, le musée Hèbre de Rochefort a choisi d'exposer ses objets extra-européens selon la perspective historique de leur collecte. Une présentation qui inscrit notamment les collections dans l’histoire des voyages d'exploration et de colonisation et crée de la cohérence entre des ensembles très divers. Cette nouvelle muséographie a demandé des recherches approfondies pour compléter les informations des inventaires souvent lacunaires.La collection océanienne, la plus importante en nombre et qualité, se compose pour l'essentiel d'objets réunis par Pierre-Adolphe Lesson. Celui-ci ainsi que son aîné René-Primevère, tous deux membres de la médecine navale, sillonnèrent le Pacifique dans la première moitié du xixe siècle. Une plongée dans les archives des deux frères, dont des travaux inédits du cadet, a permis de préciser ou de corriger la provenance de maints objets, de mieux comprendre leur usage dans leur culture d'origine et d'éclairer les circonstances de leur collecte durant une période de grandes mutations pour les sociétés océaniennes. |

| Summary, etc. | In 2006, thanks to the renovation of Hèbre Museum in Rochefort, a new exhibition display including non-western artifacts was created, from the perspective of collection history. This display shed light on the history of exploring voyages and colonization in order to understand the diverse collections with more consistency. This required extensive research to complete the lack of information in the inventory records. The Oceania collection, the most important in number and quality, was mainly collected by Pierre-Adolphe Lesson. He and his oldest brother, René-Primevère, both trained in naval medicine, travelled through the Pacific during the first half of the 19th century. A deep study of their personal archives, some by the younger brother never published, has been of great help in identifying or correcting the provenances and uses of many artifacts, better understanding their usage in the original cultures, and shedding light on the circumstances of their collection at a time of great change for Pacific people. |
