520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This paper examines the connections between Caledonian French and French in the West Indies through a comparative historico-varietal analysis of its shared linguistic diatopicisms. It states the hypothesis according to which most of the latter are also shared with the other French-speaking Islands, and were originally transported by colonial French. This is confirmed by the analysis of the identified diatopicisms (amarrer, langage, linge, nous/vous/eux autres), only one lexical unit being a recent creation (zoreille). The article shows that Caledonian French appears to be part of a dynamic movement shared with the earlier formed overseas French, forming the last of a series of “waves” which swept across the French-speaking world. |
