520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | Semiotics, literature and new hermeneutics: For a formal and committed approachIn its relation to literary theory, semiotics occupies the uncomfortable position of “science”: its structural formalism would have disqualified it. On this historical basis, the article proposes a confrontation between the broad contemporary critical movement that we call “New Hermeneutics” and the current developments of semiotics. The sensitive experience of reading is not ignored by the quest for meaning inside language properties. After the phenomenological turn of semiotics, we show that the concept of “structure” integrates the sensible through the triple suspension –referential, differential and subjectal– which defines it. Being closer to the language, in its very immanence, the theory of discourse joins literary creation, becoming involved in the real world and in the political dimension that is inherent to it. The formal work of Greimas on Lithuanian poetry is, in the example that closes the article, inseparable from his commitment to the independence of his country. |
