Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | We study the discursive uses of après and ato. Despite their different origins, these two forms have quite similar semantic and functional properties. Using spoken and written corpora, we describe the polysemy of each form. In both cases, pragmaticalization and contextual extension have caused the discursive uses of these forms to be extended, especially in informal speech. There is, however, a difference between them: après has a greater variety of discursive uses than ato, which can be explained by their respective lexical meanings and processes of constructionalization. |
