This article synthetizes the comments and opinions gathered in the files of the artwork, better to understand the making-up of these grey areas. A meticulous study of the correspondence confirms the very place where it was painted. Thus, the title is now clarified, which allows steady answers to previous legitimate questionings about its authenticity. The author also analyzes factual elements of the painting, some of them unreleased, in light of technical and historical studies on the artist and his work. The scientific literature, the internal sources of the museum and a detailed observation of the painting itself collectively admit conclusions leading to a more thorough knowledge of this significant work of the MuMa collections. |
