| Summary, etc. | Depuis toujours, l’architecture s’est préoccupée de la signification de son projet. Elle a étudié les modes de production du sens qu’elle donne à son objet pour en articuler la théorie et la pratique. Au xxe siècle, différentes disciplines scientifiques, dont la linguistique et la sémiotique, ont apporté l’aide de leur raisonnement à une reformulation de la démonstration que l’architecture donne de la valeur de son projet. La sémiotique structurale développée par Greimas, puis ses disciples, a été l’un des apports majeurs à cette quête de sens. Pour lui rendre hommage, je présente dans ce texte des fruits d’un dialogue que j’ai pu avoir à ce propos avec lui. |

| Summary, etc. | From the depth to the surface, the vertical: Or the architecture of a possible worldArchitecture has always been concerned about the meaning of its project. It has studied the modes of production of the meaning it gives to its object in order to articulate its theory and practice. In the twentieth century, different scientific disciplines, including linguistics and semiotics, have helped with their reasoning to a reformulation of the demonstration that architecture gives of the value of its project. The structural semiotics developed by Greimas, then his followers, was one of the major contributions to this quest for meaning. To pay tribute to him, I present in this text the fruits of a dialogue that I have had on this subject with him. |
