520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Man has access to world through the physical senses, especially sight, that inform him of the state of the world or of a part of it. On the other hand, human language reflects this activity through a linguistic representation of this world. In this representation, sense-data such as sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell have the status of direct perceptions, that is of a directly acquired knowledge. If we conversely look for the type of knowledge that is linguistically seen as direct perceptions, the examination of linguistic properties point out to common knowledge as a part of it. This explains why the verb voir, which is the core of this study, refers to the general acquisition of knowledge, and not only to the mere acquisition of knowledge through sight, which is fully consistent with the origin of voir, i.e. *weid ‹to acquire the knowledge of›. |
