| Summary, etc. | RésuméSi l’ethnologue ne peut rien dire de l’affect éprouvé par l’« autre », il peut toutefois tenter d’en saisir les traces dans les matériaux (dispositifs institutionnels, littérature orale, témoignages, formes de jalousie) dont il dispose. C’est ce que tente cet article en examinant quelques cas de figure situés dans le contexte de deux types de sociétés africaines, les unes marquées par un fort taux de polygynie et la prévalence des tractations familiales sur les sentiments éprouvés par les intéressés, une autre par la prise en compte initiale de ces sentiments, mais leur dénigrement lorsqu’ils ne sont plus congruents avec les objectifs du mariage. Le détour par une autre catégorie de sentiment – ceux qu’une mère peut éprouver pour son enfant – et la façon dont il est traité, permet de mettre en relief le statut du sentiment amoureux là même où il semblerait pris en compte par les institutions. Dans tous les cas évoqués, « aimer dans son cœur » est l’ultime trésor qui résiste aux contraintes sociales. |

| Summary, etc. | On the tracks of the elusive objectEven though the ethnologist is unable to say anything about the emotions the « other » feels, he can capture the traces in the material at his reach (institutions, oral literature, testimonies, forms of jealousy). This article gives examples from two african societies, one of them marked by a high level of polygyny and family involvement in the feelings of the concerned individuals, and the other one initially recognizing feelings, but denigrating them as they become incompatible with the objectives of marriage.A different kind of emotions - those of a mother towards her child - and the way they are dealt with, allows for an appreciation of the feeling of love at the very place where it seems to be taken care of by the institutions. « Loving inside one’s heart » is the last stronghold against all social constraint. |

| Summary, etc. | ResumenSi el etnólogo no puede decir nada sobre el afecto sentido por el « otro », puede sin embargo tratar de encontrar las huellas en los materiales de los que dispone (dispositivos institucionales, literatura oral, testimonios, formas presentadas por los celos). Es lo que trata de hacer este artículo, al examinar algunos casos de figura situados en dos tipos de sociedades africanas. Las primeras están marcadas por una tasa alta de poliginea y por la pre-valencia de las transacciones familiares sobre los sentimientos vividos por las personas concernidas. Las otras lo están por una toma en cuenta inicial de estos sentimientos, para luego ser denigrados si aparecen como incongruentes con los objetivos del matrimonio. Explorar otra categoría de sentimientos y la manera con la que se les trata - el que una madre siente por su hijo - permite de relevar el estatus del sentimiento de amor ahí mismo donde pareciera ser tomado en cuenta por las instituciones. En todos los caos evocados, « amar en su corazón » es el último tesoro que resiste a las presiones sociales. |
