| Summary, etc. | Les évolutions de la politique étrangère jordanienne sont le produit d’un arbitrage entre les intérêts nationaux et ceux des alliés internationaux et régionaux. En l’occurrence, il s’agit de ne pas compromettre le traité de paix avec Israël et de garantir la poursuite de l’aide financière américaine et séoudienne dont le pays dépend fortement. Cette dépendance vis-à-vis de l’aide étrangère nécessitée par la couverture de son déficit budgétaire s’est accrue dans le contexte de son « printemps arabe » et a eu l’effet que l’on connaît dans l’attitude jordanienne à l’égard de la Libye et sur ses relations avec la Syrie. Néanmoins, toutes les dimensions de la politique étrangère ne se réduisent pas à la variable budgétaire (nécessaire au maintien du régime) : comme l’illustre la politique menée dans le conflit israélo-palestinien, c’est ici l’existence même de l’État jordanien qui est en jeu. |

| Summary, etc. | Developments in Jordanian foreign policy are the outcome of arbitration between national interests and the ones of international and regional allies. It cannot jeopardize the peace treaty with Israel, and it needs to secure the U.S. and Saudi financial aid on which it is strongly dependent. In the context of the “Arab Spring” and because of a budget deficit, this dependency has increased. However, the various dimensions of foreign policy cannot be reduced to financial variables. Indeed, as revealed by the policy choices made in dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: it is the very existence of the state of Jordan that is at stake. |
