520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In the context of a gradually increasing French hegemony over Greek culture during the eighteenth and nineteenth century, Fénelon’s œuvre represents a significant case of cultural transfer. His works attracted attention for their moral, political, and pedagogical qualities. The four Greek translations of his masterpiece, The Adventures of Telemachus, had been used as a mirror of princes, a pedagogical fiction, a manual of mythology and French language teaching, and a guide for the discovery of the Mediterranean as well. The translations of his  Treatise on the Education of Daughters contributed to the spread of Greek women’s education, while those of the ancient philosophers’ lives strengthened the increasing interest in the teaching of philosophy. During the period of nation building and strengthening of national identity, Fénelon’s “Hellenism” was eagerly received by Greek intellectuals.
