520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Stereotypes about Don Quixote tend to treat it, incorrectly, as “the last book of chivalry”, or the “first modern novel”. Conversely, recognising the inspiration that Cervantes drew from the reading of Lucian should not let us think that his text is a pure Menippean satire. I attempt here a synthesis measuring Lucian’s influence and its philosophical, historical and literary stakes. I first highlight the role played by some of Lucian’s key texts in the conception of Cervantes’s main character, before trying to grasp the Lucianic essence of Part One and the Part Two.
