Summary, etc. | Cet article propose de considérer le renvoi du jeune de l’établissement comme une antithèse de l’acte éducatif et comme un renforcement du processus de l’exclusion familiale et sociale. La réflexion, illustrée par les projets éducatifs développés en Pologne et en Belgique, témoigne que le renvoi du jeune est souvent justifié par la manifestation du comportement qui constitue la raison de son placement. Ce fonctionnement, qui forme un cercle vicieux, est à la base d’une violence institutionnelle. Une alternative s’ouvre lorsqu’on considère que tout comportement a un sens dans la situation dans laquelle il se produit. Cela permet à l’institution éducative de prendre en compte le contexte dans lequel les comportements des jeunes se manifestent, de porter un regard critique sur la responsabilité qu’elle porte face à l’émergence de ce contexte et ainsi s’utiliser comme levier de changement plutôt que d’exclusion. |

Summary, etc. | « Come Back When You’re Cured »: The Establishment’s Expulsion of a Young Person As Antithesis of the Educational Approach. An International Perspective This article raises the issue of an establishment’s expulsion of a young person as the antithesis of an educational approach and as a reinforcement of the process of familial and social exclusion. Studies of the issue, as illustrated by educational projects developed in Poland and Belgium, show that expelling the young person is often justified by appeal to his/her behaviour, which was in fact the reason for the placement in the first place. This way of functioning, a vicious circle, is the basis of institutional violence. An alternative emerges when we consider the fact that every behaviour is meaningful in its own context. This would allow the educational institution to take into account the context in which the behaviour in question takes place, to look critically at its own responsibility in the development of that context, and thus to function as a tool of change rather than of exclusion. |
