Summary, etc. | Nombreux sont les jeunes enfants qui grandissent dans un contexte de bi(multi)linguisme précoce et simultané. Ce contexte est favorable pour la majorité des enfants mais il peut aussi concourir à des difficultés de communication et de développement. Une cohorte de 168 familles d’enfants âgés de la naissance à 3 ans a été vue en accueil thérapeutique, dont 70 en situation de bi(multi)linguisme. Les enfants bi(multi)lingues y sont surreprésentés. Ces enfants sont aussi soumis à des stress psychosociaux plus importants et présentent plus de risques de développer des troubles de la communication, notamment lorsque les deux parents sont allophones. Une attention accrue à leur développement devrait leur être portée dès la naissance avant que les difficultés ne soient installées. Les contextes linguistiques sont à prendre en compte dans l’évaluation et la prise en charge des difficultés précoces de développement. |

Summary, etc. | Many young children are growing up in a bi(multi) lingual environment from their very early age. For most children It contributes to an harmonious development but in some cases it may lead to communication and development difficulties. A cohort of 168 families of children aged from birth to 3 years old was seen in a drop-in therapeutic structure, 70 of whom coming from a bi(-multi)lingual environment. A high percentage of these children is received in this setting. Bi(multi)lingual children consult significantly later than the others. These children also suffer from more significant psychosocial stress and are more at risk of developing communication disorders, in particular when both parents are allophones. Linguistic environments are therefore to take into account when it comes to assessing and taking care of children with early developmental difficulties. |
