Summary, etc. This paper aims to establish a critical reading of the literature on gated communities from the United States and Latin America versus that from France, looking at recurring themes. On the basis of this comparison, we propose a reflection on the relationship, in the Americas, between the processes of enclosure, security, independence, and, ultimately, homogenisation, which seems to be one of the major trends in the evolution of the city.
