| Summary, etc. | En s’appuyant sur une série d’auteurs, ce positionnement expose des pistes afin d’étudier dans leur diversité les halos urbanisés étendus dans les pays émergents, en particulier en Asie. Les villes s’y étendent à un rythme inégalé, stimulées par la relocalisation en leur sein des capacités productives mondiales. Caractériser l’expansion urbaine dans les Suds globalisés reste un chantier ouvert. Les paradigmes permettant de dire l’urbanisation occidentale, supposés universaux, cantonnent les dynamiques observées ailleurs comme en retard. Pourtant, la convergence implique tout autant un déclin des villes du Nord qu’une élévation des villes des Suds dans un entre-deux marqué par la flexibilité et l’incertitude. Une géographie connectée s’impose de façon à décentrer notre compréhension des dynamiques urbaines. |

| Summary, etc. | Using the work of several scholars, this position paper suggests possible paths in the study of the diverse forms of urban expansion that ripple out across emerging countries, notably in Asia. With global productive capacities relocating within Asian cities, these urban centers are expanding at unrivalled rates. Little research has been carried out on the urban sprawl in the Global South. These supposedly universal paradigms used to conceptualize western urbanisation tend to acknowledge non-Western dynamics as backward. However, the convergence implies both the decline of cities in the Global North and the rise of cities in the Global South within a middle path characterized by flexibility and uncertainty. A connected geography is required to shift to a global perspective of urban dynamics. |
