| Summary, etc. | This article revisits the interpretation of Charles de Foucauld’s “Prayer of Abandonment”, focusing on the importance of a comma omitted in simplified versions of this prayer. This omission changes the spiritual meaning of the prayer, originally a meditation written by Foucauld as a Trappist under the name of Brother Marie-Albéric. We must emphasize the nuance between a “ready for anything” attitude, which could indicate an overestimation of oneself, and Jesus’ true inner disposition to face death with total trust in God. The reflection addresses spiritual preparation for death, the filial relationship between Jesus and the Father, and the Christian attitude to life and death. |
