À la croisée de l’ethnographie de la mémoire et de l’ethnographie urbaine, cette contribution invite à repenser les dynamiques mémorielles autour des espaces de vie populaires, qui subissent plus souvent que d’autres les effets du temps qui passe. Loin de l’idée d’un oubli généralisé, l’enquête auprès des anciens habitants des bidonvilles et cités de transit de Nanterre en région parisienne donne à voir les multiples manières dont se composent et recomposent les récits de ces habitats. L’espace local apparaît comme une scène privilégiée permettant d’appréhender les modalités d’accès à ce passé et de saisir ce que ces mémoires peuvent dire sur la ville, en termes de liens, de sentiments d’appartenance commune, mais aussi de tensions. |

| Summary, etc. | How can one recall lost places? At the meeting point of memory and urban ethnographies, this paper intends to rethink memorial dynamics concerning popular living places that suffered more than others the damages of time. Far removed from the idea of a generalized oblivion, a survey among people who used to live in “bidonvilles” and “cités de transit” in Nanterre, in the periphery of Paris, illustrates the various ways of construction and reconstruction of people’s narratives. Local environment appears to be a privileged place to understand in what ways the past is accessed and recalled. Moreover, it allows to better know what these peculiar memories can tell about the city, in terms of social ties, feelings of common belonging, but also in terms of tensions. |

| Summary, etc. | Aus dem Blickwinkel der Erinnerungs? und der Stadtethnographie heraus läd dieser Artikel dazu ein, über die Erinnerungen an öffentliche Orte nachzudenken, die mit der Zeit verblassen. Dabei geht es nicht um das generelle Vergessen, sondern darum, z.B. die unterschiedlichen Erzählungen der Einwohner von Nanterre, einer Hochhaussiedlung im Pariser Speckgürtel, zu hören und zu sehen, wie sich diese im Laufe der Zeit verändern. Man kann beobachten, dass der jeweilige Ort eine besondere Bedeutung bekommt, denn er bestimmt den Zugang zur Vergangenheit, zu den Erinnerungen an die Stadt, zur Bindung an sie. Ebenso ist der Ort Ausdruck des Zugehörigkeitsgefühls und der bestehenden Spannungen. |
