| Summary, etc. | Ce n’est pas sous une, mais sous deux figures distinctes, entre lesquelles aucune passerelle ne semble possible, que se dit la joie chez Spinoza : la laetitia comme affect marquant l’élévation de l’individu à un degré de puissance supérieur, et la beatitudo comme état d’accomplissement maximal et but final de toute l’entreprise éthique. L’originalité de Spinoza consiste pourtant à montrer comment la laetitia la plus commune conduit progressivement à la beatitudo par le truchement de l’idée (nouvelle) d’une « joie active », et inversement comment cette béatitude-bonheur, que certains esprits superstitieux ont voulu s’approprier, n’est rien de surnaturel mais seulement l’expérience la plus excellente qu’il est rationnellement possible de faire de la joie. |

| Summary, etc. | There is not one but two distinct ways to express joy in Spinoza’s philosophy, between which no connection seems possible : laetitia as the affect marking the rise of each individual in a upper degree of power, and beatitudo as the state of maximal fulfillment and the final goal of the whole ethical process. The originality of Spinoza is however to show how the most common laetitia leads gradually to the beatitudo by highlighting the (new) concept of an « active joy » and conversely how this blessedness/happiness, that superstitious minds wanted to appropriate, is nothing supernatural but only the most excellent experiment which is rationally possible to make of joy. |
